HOLY CRAP I LOVE THIS! I had a hard time finding a portable charger that would add life to my MacBook. I looked and looked, and I saw the various options. Most other products required me to buy a third-party adapter, or a $50 adapter (Hyper-Juice -- ugh!). I did not trust this company at all. I had never heard of them. I don't even know if this thing has any reviews yet. I wanted to buy something with 200 or more reviews because this is a huge investment. I look a chance only because Amazon lets you return items if they are crap. I am super-happy with this. It is a brick; I think it weights 3 pounds. It is the size of a large paperback or a thick iPad Mini. I was surprised at how large it is, but for the amount of power it puts out (enough to charge and power a MacBook Pro Retina) it makes sense. You get used to carrying it around I suppose. I am used to iPhone chargers/external batteries, so I am a bit jaded.
I think I paid about 140 bucks for this. Money--well--spent. No question about that. In fact I just charged up my Macbook Pro over the past hour while typing out an insane amount of emails. I think this time I went from 30% to 100% in about 45 minutes and then forgot to unplug it. This thing never blinked. It didn't get hot. It didn't overcharge my MacBook battery. And I have 2 (of 4) lights left, so about 50% left. My casual testing has led me to believe that this holds just under 2 full charges (like having to extra batteries) for your Macbook Pro Retina. If you are using an Air or an iPad you will probably get even more mileage. Me? I love having three full charges walking out the door for my Mac. I can work anywhere without having to play the "let's hunt for a wall plug" game every time I hit a coffeehouse. I wanted to write this review because I had serious doubts about this after buying a different product and being disappointed with the results--and that was after doing a month of research. You can easily spend $200-$500 on an external battery that is compatible with a MacBook Pro, and I could find nothing on the Apple website. THIS WORKS. That is all I think is necessary to say, but I can try to answer any questions if you have some.
The holes: There is the input hole (it comes with its own wall outlet to charge this thing), and then there is a 16.8 v (3.5 amp) charger and a 14.8 v (3.1 amp) charger. I use the 16.8 for my Macbook and have had no issues at all. Also there are two USB charging ports: both are 5 v (2.1 amp). Oh yeah, it is brushed silver (plastic I think, by feel). It almost looks like an Apple product. It comes with a cheap neoprene protective pouch with a side zipper pouch that is great for putting the "power bank to MacBook" cable, but won't fit the wall charger cable also. My only complaint is that the zipper does not wrap around enough to leave the charger in the pouch while you are charging your stuff.
I bought this battery because I use an 11-inch MacBook Air (2013) all day everyday, and I was tired of carrying my wall charger around with me and hunting for outlets all the time. Using this battery, I can pull off an extra three or so full charges on my MacBook, which is enough to last me the entire day.
There are a few small details about the battery that I really like. It's the exact same gray/silver color as my MacBook, and it even has a similar feel to the touch. The cables that are included are good quality and similarly fit the aesthetics. The fact that it can do passthrough charging means I can also use it as a charging hub when I'm at home. The case it comes in gives a convenient way to protect my battery and carry some cables with me when I'm on the go. The only negatives are small and understandable: the battery is a bit heavy, but that's what I'd expect for this much capacity. The charge capacity itself is definitely seems less than what's officially listed, but that's something I expect from external batteries so I wasn't unpleasantly surprised in this case (I just wanted to get at least 3 full laptop charges out of it).
I did run into one major problem, but that's actually what prompted me to write this review. A few months after purchase, the battery suddenly started buzzing any time I connected it to another device. Soon after, the USB ports stopped working. Needless to say, I was pretty bummed out, and I was well past the return period so I was expecting to write this off as a loss. I contacted the seller for advice on what to do, and within MINUTES they responded and offered a replacement. Considering that the battery itself might not even have been defective (it's possible I inadvertently damaged it), I was blown away by the instant replacement. That's top-notch customer service.
I love this, Does the job.
Although Seller/Manufacturer did not recommend this with the MBP 15" i had purchased it anyways because of other reviewers that had gotten this for the 15".
It charges around 60% while using it and to let other users know I am using a virtual machine (Parallels) with it so I Consume much more power than the average user.
I had never charged it without using the MBP, I'm assuming it can charge a little bit more than 100% if not used.
Seems like they contracted this device to charge tech as I found it here.
but i rather help out the original/vendors of this product! As they deserve recognition too! But a little sad that i didn't get the version 2 which has the USB-C slot!
Get it here! I'm a lover of charge tech too but Long live MAXOAK!
This is a big pack, larger than I was expecting, but it is 36000 mah. It has two 5V/2.1A USB type A, one 5,9,12V/3A USB type C, and a round 16.8V/3.5A outputs. The input to charge the battery is a custom round port (real bummer that it doesn't use a USB PD type C port to charge).
It comes with both magsafe 1 and 2 adapter cables, a USB C cable, and the power brick/cable for the device. My 2014 MacBook Pro with magsafe 2 charges just fine, as you can see in one of the pictures (very cool). I also tested a USB C to Lightning cable to an iPhone 8, and USB A to Lightning cable to iPad Pro. The iPad, iPhone, and MacBook Pro were all charging at the same time.
I also tested charging a Nintendo Switch over USB C. Unfortunately, this power bank will not charge the Nintendo Switch.
I needed a back up battery for my MacBook pro 15" 2012 model and did my research and read many many reviews. My laptop battery only use it for 3 hours using a program so I needed some sort of battery so that I can use my laptop for 6-8 hours without a power outlet. When I received this it was exactly as described although it was partially charged I charged it completely and did a test to see if this is something I can use on the road I also had my MacBook Pro fully charged at the time of this test. I removed my power cord , attached the power cord include , set a timer and began working with my program and watch various videos online. This kept my laptop at 100% for 5 hours and 11 minutes so this gave me the 6-8 needed Im 100% satisfied with this product and strongly recommend it after just one use.
This is a live saver for my busy work and school schedule. It charges my 9 year old MacBook Pro up to 2.5 times from zero battery percentage. It's very compact for a battery pack that packs a punch. It's a great device to have when your in a busy coffee shop and there's no available power supply. I'm very pleased with the customer service when I contacted to notify a decrease in battery life. They got back to me immediately and sent me a replacement. This is the real deal!
This past weekend, took it on a camping trip. Used it to recharge a 13” MacBook Air, once up from 37% to 100 in 2 or 3 hours and again from 50% in less time. Unit still had 2 LEDs worth of juice left. Recharged the unit in about 3 hours.
I’d call it a huge success. Plan to take it for a 2-week camp trip, I’m pretty sure it’ll make it a lot more convenient.
The Maxoak new version of 36000mah power bank is wonderful! My computer was completely dead and within seconds the power bank began to charge my 2013 15" Macbook Pro Retina (within 5 seconds it went from 0 to 20% charged, and then continued to charge from there on after). It also allowed me to charge multiple devices simultaneously - i was able to charge my MacBook and iPhone or iPad at the same time. The device allows you to charge your macbook without an outlet - great for travel, or working on the go! I have bought this product in the past - it still works after 4+ years; however, the new version is much faster! My best friend came over with her new 13" 2018 Macbook pro and it was completely discharged. She plugged it into my new Maxoak 3600 and it charged immediately. She had tried to charge her new computer on my old Maxoak 3600 and it would not charge.. She also noticed that the new charger had a pd.2.0 port and a type-c port. Sleek design and great quality - I would definitely recommend this product!
The k3 battery bank is perfect in every way. From the fit and finish to the battery capacity and multiple outputs this battery pack beats the others.Lets start off with its looks, the k3 has a silver sand blasted oxydation which looks and feels rugged and seems scratch resistant to a degree, in addition matches my mac book pro like it was part of the family. This is one of those things that was needed a few years ago and my thanks go out to max oak for finally making it.Like there past product the k2, the k3 is high on capacity, it features a 36000 mah, or in other words 133 watt hours of supplied power with two outputs dedicated for laptop output one has 16.8 volts with 3.5 amps of power and the other has 14.8 volts with 3.1 amps of output and then 2 usb ports with 2.1 amps of power which will charge up those smart phones quickly.
This battery bank does preform very well, i found that my macbook pro 13 inch mid 2012 charged from 5 percent to 100 percent at around an hour and had about half its power left for the next recharge. The k3 supports pass thru charging as well, in other works it can charge your mac and be charged as well.My iPhone 6 recharged from 20 percent to 100 percent in 1 hour 30 minuets with a 2.1 amp output.
I do a lot of backpacking in the adorandack mountains and Catskills in New York and have to say this is not for lightweight backpacking, however the k3 is great for base camp backpacking and camping trips. This battery bank is a bit on the hefty side but that is quickly made up by its capacity and good looks. If you look at some of the pictures you will notice a goal zero sherpa 50 battery pack connected to a solar panel and that provides the power to charge the k3.The problem for me is that i don't want a transformer in addition to the system, so i will try experimenting using the sherpa 50's 12 volt output to the k3 and see how that goes. In theory it should work, since the k3 battery bank needs 12.6 volts input and the sherpa 50 is 12 volts with a difference of .6 volts then it might work.ill check back later to confirm later but its an interesting idea with using the sherpa 50 as a charge controller. It can be used in many systems just be sure to keep the voltages within parameters.
You can also see how compact this unit is compared to my mac book pro 13 inch, iPad air, k2, and the sherpa 50 and includes a carry pouch for all the wires and the battery itself. I forgot to mention that this company not only has a great costomer service response, they also include a free gift which is a smaller battery pack and is just as stylish for smaller devices and thats what i like about this company, they think of the little things.
I have received the k3 battery bank for an unbiased and honest review at a discounted price.I hands down recommend this battery bank to others considering getting one!!!!!!!!
There are not very many power banks for the MacBook Pro 13 available on line. This one looks good. I like the silver outside which matches my laptop. It came with chords for other types of laptops -- and the Magsafe L connector for my 2012 version. It is a heavy device, but then it can charge the laptop and USB devices such as my phone and iPad as well. Out of the package it register 3/4 charge and seems to work just as one would expect.
A great power bank. Easy to manage and store. Not too heavy. Can travel with anywhere. Battery life is absolutely great. Can power multiple devices at the same time. Cant go wrong with this power bank. I like it and so will you. Thanks maxoak. Mr.
This is great for Samsung TabPro S windows tablet. I happen to have the tablet and MacPro Retina 15"for work. This charger works great for charging both devices with the connected cables right out of the box. It took me a while to find a charger for the TabPro S since it has a USB-C port. This works great.
I have now completed two business trips where I left my regular Macbook air charging cable at home. Not only does this product save me space but I have had reliable, portable power where ever I have traveled. I spend a lot of time on the road one week a month dividing driver and passenger duties. This battery insures I always have the power I need.
